ULCER

A lot of people view ulcer differently although pointing the same direction THE CHEST.

The word Ulcer is a break in skin or mucous membrane with loss of surface tissue, disintegration and necrosis of epithelial tissue, or something that festers and corrupts like an open sore. It Also mean a painful, sore area inside or outside the body.

People use to think that stress or certain foods could cause ulcers. But researchers haven’t found any evidence to support those theories. Instead, studies have revealed two main causes of ulcer:

1.Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) bacteria(H. pylori is a common type of bacteria that grows in the digestive tract and has a tendency to attack the stomach lining.

2Pain-relieving NSAID medications.

H. pylori bacteria.

NOTE that hunger doesn’t really cause ulcer,it only strengthen the ulcer giving it more strength to manifest.

The most common types of ulcer are;

PEPTIC/STOMACH ULCER/:A sore that develops on the lining of the oesophagus, stomach or small intestine.

Ulcers occur when stomach acid damages the lining of the digestive tract. Common causes include the bacteria H. Pylori and anti-inflammatory pain relievers including aspirin.

Other types of peptic ulcer are;

*Gastric ulcers, or ulcers that develop in the stomach lining or small intestine. *Esophageal ulcers, or ulcers that develop in the esophagus.These ulcers can typically be treated with changes to lifestyle and diet, coupled with certain medications and other treatments.

*Duodenal ulcers, or ulcers that develop in the duodenum (small intestine)most common symptom of a duodenal ulcer is pain in the mid to upper stomach region, especially if this pain intensifies when the stomach is empty or if the pain wakes you up in the middle of the night.

ARTERIAL ULCER:Arterial (ischemic) ulcers are open sores that primarily develop on the outer side of your ankle, feet, toes, and heels. Arterial ulcers develop from damage to the arteries due to lack of blood flow to tissue. These forms of ulcers can take months to heal and require proper treatment to prevent infection and further complications.

VENOUS ULCER:Also call stasis ulcer,its a wound on the leg or ankle caused by abnormal or damaged veins.

Venous ulcers are due to abnormal vein function. People may inherit a tendency for abnormal veins. Common causes of damaged veins include blood clots, injury, ageing and obesity.

MOUTH ULCER( minor, major, herpetiform):mouth ulcer is an ulcer that occurs on the mucous membrane of the oral cavity.They are one form of stomatitis. A mouth ulcer is damaged epithelium and its underlying lamina propria. Mouth ulcers may be due to trauma, irritation, radiation, infections, drugs, inflammatory disorders and unknown causes.

The most common presentation of mouth ulcers is with painful, recurrent aphthous stomatitis, also known as aphthosis, aphthae, aphthous ulcerations and canker sores.

Mouth ulcers are very common, occurring in association with many diseases and by many different mechanisms, but usually there is no serious underlying cause.

The signs and symptoms of ulcer varies from person to person,the most common symptoms includes;

*Burning stomach pain

*Feeling of fullness, bloating or belching

*Intolerance to fatty foods

*Vomiting or vomiting blood — which may appear red or black

*Dark blood in stools, or stools that are black or tarry

*Trouble breathing

*Feeling faint

*Unexplained weight loss

*Appetite changes
